Add Review/CommentCucuru Gallery is delighted to extend its exhibition of Ellen O'Brien's Retrospective "1940s to 2008" through Sept. 15. Guillermo Alvarado says this is the first time they've shown one of the premier living artists of this region. Please join Ms. O'Brien at Cucuru Gallery on Thursday, September 4th from 6:30-8 p.m. for a conversation about her work and life.
Artist Ellen O'Brien comes forth in a retrospective show encompassing nearly 70 years of her work in drawing, oil, watercolor, lithography, etching and woodcuts. This is a rare opportunity to view and invest in a treasure trove of masterworks, including pieces from the 1940's and 1950's, on exhibit in Colorado for the first time.
Ms. O'Brien's works reflect great creative inventiveness and rare technical virtuosity. This body of work, painted in New York, Paris and Colorado, reflects her active participation in the changing art scenes of the 20th century. Her work is a sweeping range of realism, cubism and abstraction. "When people view my show, they will think 3 different people painted these paintings," she says.
Ms. O'Brien is gifted with an ability to express tremendous emotion and insight in her graceful figures, rhythmically patterned still lifes and mysterious landscapes. She studied at the prestigious Academé Leger in Paris, received a BFA from Cornell University and a Masters of Fine Art from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Over 100 pieces on view are for sale, including lithographs printed by Master Lithographer Lawrence Barrett.
